Dog Grooming And Tick Control: How It Keeps Your Pet Safe

While it goes without saying that most people love their dogs, it's difficult to predict how many of them really know how to take proper care of them.

I've been in the dog grooming Austin business for nearly 20 years, yet am still surprised when people aren't aware of the dangers that ticks present to the animals.

Diseases associated with tick bites are on the increase, and they can be devastating to the dog's health. Additionally, ticks can easily bite people, further complicating the health hazards.

Thorough checks for ticks are in order, particularly during the warmer weather, and since you need to groom your dog anyway, why not do both at the same time?

When I or any member of my staff is told a dog might have ticks, the dog grooming routine changes a little. We literally go over the coat, closely inspecting the skin from nose to tail, including between paws, in ears and under all limbs.

During the shampooing, it helps to scrub everywhere with your fingertips, so you can detect even a small tick.

If you get your dog groomed or do it yourself, incorporate tick awareness in the routine. It's not very difficult, especially compared to the importance of it.
